Biography

Ben is a freelance art historian specialising in British twentieth century and international contemporary art. He lectures at a variety of London institutions including both Tates, The Serpentine and Whitechapel Galleries.

A BA in English at Robinson College Cambridge originally led him into the world of London theatre where he worked as a theatrical agent for 7 years.

He spent most of his lunch hours foregoing epicurean meals with actors and casting directors for the nourishing one o’clock lectures at the National Gallery.

An MA in Art History at Birkbeck College London led to a teaching post at Christie’s Education on the Modern and Contemporary Art syllabus.

Since 2002 he has worked mainly with private groups, leading tours to galleries in London, across the UK and abroad.

An erstwhile Associate Editor of the British Art Journal, Ben continues to write contemporary exhibition reviews and is published on his own particular area of interest, First World War painting and the English avant-garde movement Vorticism.
